the various roles of libraries in society

in the Library Science Film Festival

hosted at New Haven Free Public Library

January 24-26, 2012

 

The following films will be screened at the Main Branch:

 

Tuesday, Jan. 24

6 pm: HOLLYWOOD LIBRARIAN: A Look at Librarians Through Film

(2007, 96 min.)

Featuring author Ray Bradbury

 

Wednesday, Jan. 25 

4:30 pm: OUT OF OBSCURITY (2000, 40 min., documentary)

   In 1939 five young men protest in favor of opening Virginia public library

to African Americans

6 pm: STORM CENTER (1956, 85 min.)

Bette Davis is small-town librarian who fights book banning.

 

Thursday, Jan. 26 

 6 pm: DESK SET (1957, 103 min).

Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy spar over tech "improvements" 

 in a metropolitan newspaper library.

 

There is no charge and free parking is available after 4 pm

The Main (Ives) branch of the New Haven Free Public Library system is located at 133 Elm St., across from the New Haven Green, corner of Elm and Temple. Yale Lot #51 on Temple Street (across the street from the library) opens to the public at 4pm, and there are 2-hour parking meters on streets surrounding the library.
